About the Work
Drawings in ink on paper on the theme of an individual moving through a landscape full of personal trials and tribulations – symbolised by a winged figure, which is both mischievous and cruel. The main character is on occasion, thankfully, able to give as well as receive. In the end some solace is achieved. A group of drawings from this series was first exhibited in Oriel Canfas, Cardiff, 2010, a second showing of some selected drawings in Oriel Q, Narberth, 2016 and at The Red House in Merthyr in 2019. On all occasions, poetry in response by David Thomas was performed and exhibited.
About the Artist
Keith Bayliss’ work is figurative and expressive – his motif, the human figure situated within the landscape. He works in a variety of mediums: pencil and ink on paper, oil on canvas, relief printing and more recently, small mixed media sculptural constructions. His large scale works present life size figures often inhabiting undefined or unrecognisable places. His protagonists frequently interact, sometimes moving in opposite directions with a bird or animal as companion in this private, intimate, interplay within timeless space
Keith Bayliss is based in Swansea
